There’s Tolerance and There’s “Tolerance”

24 May

I find it amusing how things in the worldwide web seem to gravitate towards this topic today… around my part of the internet, at least. 🙂

Recently writing about Manny Pacquiao’s reaction about same-sex marriage, expressing his stand on the issue. He, along with many supporters of traditional marriage have been labeled “bigots” and “intolerant” people. I’m glad The Vortex featured this video today, giving Catholics some ammo whenever we are called intolerant people:

It’s so great, I just had to make a sorta-kinda-like-a-meme for it: Continue reading

Bad news: CBCP Granted TRO vs. Diablo III retailers. Good news: enjoy satire

17 May

A satirical article making the rounds on twitter and the internet has fueled the already not-so-popular standing of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) in society. While some understand the nature of satire, most of the commenters and reactors are completely ignorant of it, spewing hate against CBCP and their “meddling” with something that they shouldn’t meddle with.

I was amused initially, and felt a bit proud, for not having fallen into the ‘trap’. But then I realized how this affects those who are “Catholics” by name only, showing mistrust and disgust for their pastors. It’s saddening, really. I’ve compiled a couple of comments from the article:

Clearly, the Church and CBCP has a great need to catechize and educate people.

Oh, and if you’re friends with any of these commenters, be a blessing to them and teach them what satire is. 🙂

Manny Pacquiao is a bigot?

16 May

It’s everywhere. Yup, Manny Pacquiao quotes Leviticus 18:22 and every practicing LGBT screams “discrimination!”

Now, I don’t know why you or your spritual adviser Pastor Jeric Soriano decided to say or quote the verse but what’s done is done. I can only wonder how can you defend yourself after this.

The problem I see is that it’s so easy for Manny to throw verses as fast as he throws punches. However, when countered with another Bible verse (or name-calling, or some other reaction/tweet/etc.), I’m not so sure how his theological training (if any) could respond to it.

While I support his views on this matter, he’s certainly not a very good poster boy for explaining why he takes the position of protecting heterosexual marriage. He only comes out a puppet for whatever his spiritual director says and believes — not an intelligent, rational Christian who can defend his position well.

P.S. The Church has this covered. CCC 2357, 2358, and 2359

Confession Question

7 May

I just found this cute, entertaining, and informative video about the Sacrament of Reconciliation (a.k.a. going to Confession) and pretty much covers everything I want to explain and say about it. 🙂

Enjoy!
